First, Happy New Year! I hope you’ve retained the momentum you had when the clock struck twelve!

Around the end of December and into the first of January, I try to focus on the things that are important. This year, a priority of mine is to get back into “basketball shape”. Right now, I’m feeling like a linebacker or offensive lineman on a football team!

With that being said, I spent the first day of the year at the gym; my gym is located in a hospital. Not only is it in a hospital, but it’s beside a major entrance – the maternity ward.

When I look out the windows, I see all kinds of people. Of course, something I saw on Sunday stood out.

A man and woman came out and stood in the entry. Pretty ordinary, right?

After standing there a few seconds, she lit a cigarette and passed it to him. However, he was a patient. How did I know? He was still hooked up to his IV machine!

Please understand that I’m not here to condemn anyone. We all have things that we’re working on conquering. But how ironic is it that the patient was there to heal and decided to behave in a contradictory manner?

How many of us do that? How many of us, myself included, say we want to change but continue the same destructive behaviors?

It’s 2017. It’s time to leave our old habits behind us.

I don’t know what’s holding you back from reaching your scholarship dreams, but it’s time to move on. Look yourself in the mirror and address the issues that are keeping you and your family from where you need to be. Find the encouragement, support, and help to move to the next level. You cannot afford to stay where you are.
